The role
Due to internal growth, the need for a Software Engineer to work with Infrastructure and Tools has come about. Working closely with the IT and Marketing departments, a Software Engineer is required to join the team in the North.
You will take responsibility for:
- Working closely with the IT and marketing teams,
- The software engineer's main role will be to support and develop the company's in-house tools and infrastructure, allowing the engineering team to work seamlessly on company projects.
- Using languages such as Java, Javascript, Python and/or PHP, your role will also encompass designing and developing software, deploying both in house and off-the-shelf software onto Linux-based servers and Docker containers.
- Your engineering colleagues are the customer - they provide you with their requirements and will support you in being able to prioritise the most important features and functionality.
- The role is mainly remote, with one day a week being based in the offices in Leeds.
What you need
It is ESSENTIAL for the successful candidate to have the following:
- Experience using major programming languages- Python, PHP, Java or JavaScript
- Willingness to learn new programming languages as required
- Able to interact and configure Linux systems
- Experience writing Shell Scripts
- Understanding of complex issues and being able to have discussions regarding them
Other DESIRABLE skills include:
- Experience using Docker and related technologies- Kubernetes
- Experience with CI tools- Jenkins or Gitlab pipelines
- Experience using Web servers- Apache, Nginx
- Knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP or IP
- Knowledge of security protocols such as TLS, HTTPS or SSH
- Experience using TDD and Unit testing frameworks such as Google Test
- Able to build automation and other tools like Make, Maven, Ant or Yocto
