The company
A global manufacturing business based in Birmingham supplying into the world's leading Aerospace and defence Industries. The company is now undergoing significant expansion across its flagship Birmingham site due to a huge influx of demand with key customers and on the back of this growth are seeking a Design Engineer to join the Maintenance and Engineering team.
The role
Working under the Maintenance Manager, A Design Engineer to assist the engineering, maintenance and fabrication teams with the design and build of existing machinery layouts and processes.
You will take responsibility for:
- Producing 2D and 3D design drawings of existing equipment (furnaces, milling machines, stretching machines, hot mill, saws) and pipework (hydraulic, pneumatic) as well as carrying out site measurements
- Consulting with the engineering and maintenance team ensuring designs are feasible and providing assistance and technical support to the fabrication teams and advise on specifications
- Managing project timelines and producing technical reports, operational manuals and design specification documents.
- Updating electrical drawings and supporting any design issues that may arise.
What you need
It is ESSENTIAL for the successful candidate to have the following:
- Minimum HNC Qualified and 5+ years' experience as a mechanical design engineer
- Proficient with Engineering design programs: 3D CAD/CAM Modelling (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks)
- A skilled communicator who is organised with a great attention to detail who can work well as part of a multi-disciplined team of engineers
- Good knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices
- Ability to analyze technically complex problems and develop appropriate solutions.
Other DESIRABLE skills include:
- Previous experience designing process flows and working within manufacturing/process engineering teams would be an advantage
- Experience of working within heavy industry- aerospace / foundry / forging setting would be highly advantageous
