The company

A Manufacturing Business based in South Birmingham, who are leading the way in research, development and manufacture of sustainable polymer technology solutions, working closely and in partnership with some of the largest global brands and FMCG industries.

After seeing a large increase in production due to key investments over the past few years, the company are rapidly expanding their team to fulfil their various projects both internally and externally and are looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join them on a permanent basis.

The role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, A General Maintenance Engineer is now required join the team on a permanent basis to so support the production and technical functions and assist in the planning and execution of all planned maintenance tasks at the facility.

Working 12 hours shifts days (7am-7pm) & nights (7pm-7am) on a rota pattern with maximum hours - 42 hours per week.

You will take responsibility for:

  • To carry out planned maintenance, inspect and service various machinery including, diagnosing faults, managing breakdowns, and carrying out reactive repairs in a timely manner.
  • Planning workload efficiently according to relevant timeframes and reporting any issues whilst carrying out PMs.
  • Assisting in the development of the spare-parts inventory, ordering, and managing spares to maintain production schedules to keep downtime to a minimum.
  • To implement and promote 5S and LEAN principles in everyday practice to ensure continuous development and a safe working environment, thus ensuring safe working practice (conducting Risk assessments, completing H&S checks & inspections).
  • To develop, record and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for all identified departmental activities as part of the team

What you need

It is ESSENTIAL for the successful candidate to have the following:

  • At least C&G / NVQ qualified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous experience within a busy commercial production environment
  • Computer literate and skilled in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • A skilled communicator who can work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be trained and well versed in Health & Safety

Other DESIRABLE skills include:

  • HNC/Degreed qualified and experience working in multi-skilled maintenance, working within the plastics, food or chemical sectors being highly advantageous
  • Well versed in Health & Safety, IOSH qualified would be an advantage
  • Experience of working with PLCs is desirable
