The company
A global manufacturing business based in Birmingham supplying into the world's leading Aerospace and defence Industries. The company is now undergoing significant expansion across its flagship Birmingham site due to a huge influx of demand with key customers and on the back of this growth are seeking a Remelt Metallurgist to join their technical team.
The role
An Remelt Metallurgist reporting into the Technical Manager, responsible for achieving the overall metal product specification requirements across the facility, ensuring quality at all stages of the production process.
You will take responsibility for:
- To monitor, test, evaluate and report the parameters of key processes across the site such as furnace processing, in-line degassing, hydrogen content and grain refinement.
- To carry out evaluations on raw materials and to sample storage
- Develop technology and casting practices. (Moulds, ingot inspection, metal distribution, level control, water control)
- Coordinating instrument / machine maintenance, organising service visits and contracts.
- Purchasing and control of departmental consumables
- Candidate must ensure that they are maintaining corporate and ISO quality accreditations, supporting chemical analysis, and regularly report performance and results
What you need
It is ESSENTIAL for the successful candidate to have the following:
- Must be ONC/OND and HNC/HND qualified in relevant subject with suitable work experience
- Technical knowledge in metal forming, heat treatment and/or casting practices management
- Ability to work with others and positively influence a team and work independently using own initiative.
- Good problem-solving and organisation skills, able to deliver solutions in a fast-moving environment
- Must be computer literate, organised, self-motivated, have a good attention to detail and a strong communicator
Other DESIRABLE skills include:
- To have Achieved a degree within the relevant field would be highly advantageous
- Knowledge or experience working within the aluminium industry and/or understanding of product applications would be desirable
